H1 & H2 Biology
From the molecular machinery of the cell to the forces of evolution — we coach students to understand biology at the depth that A-Level examinations demand.
All content is aligned with the requirements set out in the 2025 H1 Biology Syllabus (8876) and the 2025 H2 Biology Syllabus (9744) published by the Ministry of Education Singapore.

H2 Biology is the standard track for life-sciences students. H1 Biology is a lighter option for students not specialising in biology.
Most Popular
Full A-Level Biology for life-sciences students. Includes Homeostasis, Nervous System, Immunology, Infectious Diseases, and Paper 4 Practical. Recommended for students targeting medicine, life sciences or biomedical engineering.
H2 Biology covers all four Core Ideas in greater depth, plus two Extension Topics (Infectious Diseases and Climate Change). Topics marked ‘H2 only’ are not required for H1.

Extension Topics
H2 Biology students study both Extension Topics (about 15% of the curriculum each). H1 students study Extension Topic A only.
H1 & H2
Explores how climate change — driven by greenhouse gas emissions — affects biodiversity, ecosystems, food supply, and vector-borne diseases. Includes Singapore-specific context and active citizenry.
H2 Only
Examines the biology of infectious diseases — pathogens, transmission, host-pathogen interactions, and public health responses. Applies Core Idea 2 (Genetics) and Core Idea 3 (Energy) in real-world disease contexts.
H2 Biology includes additional depth in Core Ideas 2 (Recombinant DNA Technology, Immunology) and Core Idea 3 (Homeostasis, Nervous System), plus Extension Topic B (Infectious Diseases). H2 also includes a Paper 4 Practical examination worth 20% of the grade.
H2 Biology Assessment (9744)
Cambridge A-Level examination format
Paper 1
1 h · 30 marks
30 compulsory MCQ, 4 options each
Paper 2
2 h · 90 marks
Compulsory structured questions including data-based questions requiring integration across topics
Paper 3
2 h · 75 marks
Section A (55 marks) compulsory long structured; Section B (20 marks) choice of 1 from 2 free-response
Paper 4
2 h 30 min · 50 marks
Lab-based practical assessment; H2 only. Includes experimental design, data analysis and evaluation
A subset of H2 Biology. Excludes Homeostasis, Nervous System, Immunology, Infectious Diseases, and Practical. Suitable for students taking Biology as a contrasting subject.
H1 Biology covers all four Core Ideas at a lighter depth, plus one Extension Topic (Climate Change). Topics marked ‘H2 only’ are not included in H1.

How Aspire Hub Helps
Select your child’s current year to see how our coaching is structured for that stage.
JC1
JC1 Biology introduces a level of molecular and biochemical detail that many students find challenging after O-Level. Our coaching focuses on building genuine understanding of how structures relate to functions — from organelles to ecosystems.
DNA replication, transcription, translation, and enzyme kinetics are the backbone of the entire syllabus. We ensure these are understood deeply before moving to genetics and evolution.
Biology exams are heavy on interpreting electron micrographs, graphs, and experimental data. We train this skill explicitly from JC1.
Photosynthesis and respiration pathways are notoriously confusing. We use structured diagrams and step-by-step breakdowns to make these manageable.
Paper 4 Practical skills — experimental design, error analysis, and data interpretation — are introduced early to avoid last-minute pressure.
JC2
JC1 Biology introduces a level of molecular and biochemical detail that many students find challenging after O-Level. Our coaching focuses on building genuine understanding of how structures relate to functions — from organelles to ecosystems.
JC2 Biology requires students to integrate knowledge across all four Core Ideas and both Extension Topics, and apply it to novel, unfamiliar contexts. Our coaching targets the specific skills that distinguish A-grade answers from B-grade ones.
Paper 3 Section B requires 20-mark essay-style answers. We coach students on how to plan, structure, and write these answers with scientific precision and clarity.
Papers 2 and 3 include stimulus-based questions with unfamiliar experimental data. We practise the skill of applying biological principles to novel scenarios.
Regular timed mock papers under exam conditions, with detailed marking and feedback, to build speed, accuracy and exam composure across all four papers.
Our coaches help JC students build the conceptual depth and exam technique needed to achieve their best in A-Level Biology.
