Chinese Language Coaching
华文 · 高级华文
Our Chinese Language programme follows closely with the latest MOE 2021 Secondary MTL Syllabus and the O-Level / Higher Chinese examination syllabuses (1160 and 1116), covering all six language skills across G2, G3 and Higher Chinese tracks.
Our programme follows closely with the latest MOE syllabus. All content is drawn from the 2021 Secondary Mother Tongue Languages Syllabus and the 2026 O-Level Chinese (1160) and Higher Chinese (1116) syllabuses published by MOE Singapore.
Three Tracks, One Coaching Standard
G3 Chinese (Express) follows the 2021 Secondary MTL Syllabus and is assessed at the O-Level under Syllabus 1160. Students develop all six language skills — listening, speaking, reading, writing, spoken interaction and written interaction — building on their primary school foundation.
In Lower Secondary (Sec 1–2), G3 students build on their primary school Chinese foundation. The focus is on broadening vocabulary, developing reading fluency across different text types, and strengthening both written and oral communication. Students are introduced to literary texts and contemporary issues to make language learning meaningful and relevant.

Understand spoken Chinese in everyday contexts — conversations, announcements, short narratives and broadcasts. Identify main ideas and supporting details.
写作
Write structured compositions and functional texts (emails, notices). Develop vocabulary range, sentence variety and coherent paragraph structure.
说话
Speak clearly and fluently on familiar topics. Describe experiences, express opinions and respond to questions in structured oral tasks.
互动
Engage in spoken and written interaction — discussions, collaborative tasks and written exchanges — using appropriate register and tone.
阅读
Read and comprehend a variety of text types — stories, fables, letters, advertisements and news articles. Identify key information and infer meaning from context.
文化与文学
Explore literary texts, cultural stories and contemporary issues that build cultural awareness and a deeper appreciation of the Chinese language.
Expanding vocabulary for everyday and academic use
Writing structured paragraphs and short compositions
Introduction to literary texts and cultural themes
Reading comprehension across narrative, expository and practical texts
Oral fluency and confidence in structured speaking tasks
Building grammar accuracy and sentence variety
G3 Chinese (Express) follows the 2021 Secondary MTL Syllabus and is assessed at the O-Level under Syllabus 1160. Students develop all six language skills — listening, speaking, reading, writing, spoken interaction and written interaction — building on their primary school foundation.
In Upper Secondary (Sec 3–4), G3 students prepare for the O-Level Chinese examination (Syllabus 1160). The focus shifts to examination technique — mastering the four-paper format, developing precision in writing (functional texts and compositions), building reading comprehension speed and accuracy, and refining oral performance with the video-based conversation component.
写作:实用文与作文
Master email writing (150+ characters) and composition writing (300+ characters) across narrative, expository and argumentative genres. Learn to use the permitted dictionary effectively.

书面互动
Respond appropriately in written form to different communicative purposes — informing, persuading and expressing opinions — with correct register and tone.
口试:朗读与会话
Read a passage aloud with accurate pronunciation and expression, then hold a video-based conversation with the examiner on a given topic.

O-Level Paper 3: Oral reading aloud and video-based conversation

O-Level Paper 2: Cloze, vocabulary replacement and reading comprehension
O-Level Chinese (1160) comprises four papers: Writing 30%, Language & Reading 35%, Oral 25%, Listening 10%. Total: 200 marks. Students may use the SEAB-approved dictionary during Paper 1.
G2 Chinese (Normal Academic) follows the same 2021 Secondary MTL Syllabus framework as G3, covering all six language skills. The key difference is pace and depth — G2 students have more curriculum time for consolidation, and the examination is calibrated to the N(A)-Level standard. Our coaching ensures G2 students build genuine confidence and mastery at their level.
In Lower Secondary (Sec 1–2), G2 students consolidate their primary school Chinese foundation with a focus on building confidence and genuine language competency. The curriculum covers the same six language skills as G3 — listening, speaking, reading, writing, spoken interaction and written interaction — at a pace that allows for deeper consolidation and more structured support.

Lower Secondary G2 Chinese is assessed through school-based examinations and weighted assessments. Components mirror the N(A)-Level format — reading comprehension, cloze, composition and oral — giving students early familiarity with the examination structure.
In Upper Secondary (Sec 3–4), G2 students prepare for the N(A)-Level Chinese examination. Our coaching focuses on building examination confidence and technique — ensuring students can handle all four paper components with accuracy and composure. We pay particular attention to composition planning, vocabulary application and oral fluency, which are the highest-impact areas for N(A)-Level performance.

Higher Chinese (高级华文, Syllabus 1116) is offered to academically strong students who demonstrate high proficiency in Chinese. It has a more demanding examination structure — three papers instead of four, with a heavier emphasis on writing (40%) and language application. Additional skills include 病句改正 (error correction), 片段缩写 (passage summary) and a formal oral presentation component.
Higher Chinese vs Standard Chinese: Higher Chinese (1116) has three papers instead of four. Writing and Language & Reading each carry 40% (vs 30% and 35% for standard Chinese). Additional components include error correction (病句改正), passage summary (片段缩写), and a formal oral presentation. Word count requirements are higher throughout.
In Lower Secondary (Sec 1–2), Higher Chinese students develop advanced language competencies across all six skills. The curriculum is more demanding in vocabulary depth, text complexity and writing sophistication. Students engage extensively with literary texts, contemporary issues and cultural materials, building the analytical and expressive language skills needed for the Higher Chinese examination.

Lower Secondary Higher Chinese is assessed through school-based examinations. The standard is noticeably higher than G3 — compositions require greater sophistication, vocabulary depth and structural variety. Our coaches set the bar appropriately from Sec 1.
In Upper Secondary (Sec 3–4), Higher Chinese students prepare for the O-Level Higher Chinese examination (Syllabus 1116). The examination is more demanding than standard Chinese — writing carries 40% of marks, Paper 2 includes error correction (病句改正) and passage summary (片段缩写), and the oral component requires a formal presentation rather than a simple conversation. Our coaching targets each of these high-value components with precision.
写作:实用文与作文
Master email writing and online forum posts (220+ characters) and extended compositions (500+ characters) including argumentative essays and speeches. Build a sophisticated vocabulary bank and master varied sentence structures.
时事与议论
Engage with current affairs and complex social issues to enrich composition content, oral presentations and discussion responses with well-reasoned, insightful perspectives.
语文应用与阅读理解
Master all five Paper 2 components: cloze (短文填充), error correction (病句改正), two levels of reading comprehension, and passage summary (片段缩写, ~80 characters).
病句改正

口试:朗读与会话
Prepare and deliver a structured oral report (up to 2 minutes) based on a video stimulus, followed by a substantive discussion with the examiner. A higher standard than standard Chinese oral.
片段缩写
Summarise a passage into approximately 80 characters, retaining key information and using accurate, concise Chinese — a high-value skill that requires both comprehension and writing precision.
Paper 1: Functional writing (email/forum post) and extended composition (500+ characters)
Paper 3: Oral presentation (口头报告) and discussion technique
Error correction (病句改正) — identifying and fixing grammatical errors
Paper 2: Cloze, error correction, reading comprehension and passage summary
Advanced vocabulary for argumentative and expository writing
Passage summary (片段缩写) — concise, accurate summarisation in ~80 characters
O-Level Higher Chinese (1116) has three papers: Writing 40%, Language & Reading 40%, Oral 20%. Total: 200 marks. The higher word counts, error correction and passage summary components make this a significantly more demanding examination than standard Chinese.

40%
Cloze passage (短文填充), error correction (病句改正), two levels of reading comprehension, and passage summary (片段缩写, ~80 characters).

Our Approach to Chinese Language Coaching
Track-Specific Coaching
We coach G2, G3 and Higher Chinese students separately, ensuring every student is coached to the exact demands of their syllabus and examination — not a one-size-fits-all approach.
Composition & Writing Mastery
Writing carries the highest marks in Chinese examinations. We teach structured composition planning, vocabulary application, and genre-specific techniques — from narrative to argumentative writing.
Oral & Listening Confidence
Many students underperform in oral and listening components due to lack of structured practice. We provide systematic oral coaching — reading aloud, conversation technique and (for Higher Chinese) oral presentation skills.
Vocabulary Building
A strong vocabulary is the foundation of all Chinese language skills. We build students’ vocabulary systematically — for reading comprehension, composition writing and oral expression.
Higher Chinese Specialist Skills
For Higher Chinese students, we provide targeted coaching on 病句改正 (error correction) and 片段缩写 (passage summary) — two components unique to Syllabus 1116 that require specific techniques.
Examination Strategy
We teach students how to approach each paper strategically — time allocation, question analysis, and the specific techniques needed to maximise marks in every component.
